As you you may know, there is a movement happening across the US to supress voters. Which voters, you ask? Minority voters, homeless voters, senior citizen voters, low income voters, college student voters, and even military personnel voters. This movement is a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'. These changes are coming in the form of "Voter ID Amendments". The amendments are being presented as a way to curb or even eliminate so-called 'voter fraud'. We all value the power of our individual vote and most of us would agree that if voter fraud was impacting elections something should be done. What about when a percentage of a percentage of voter fraud is happening? The research suggests that voter fraud happens upwards of 0.0009% and most of these are mistaken votes placed by ineligible voters unaware of their voting status. Does that seem worth restricting the vote of over 300,000 Minnesotans? At a potential tax payer cost of over six MILLION dollars?? Absolutely NOT!!
So the question is, HOW DO WE STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING? We organize!!! We as concerned citizens that believe in democracy and free speech, we organize. Those of us with a strong desire to preserve voting rights, that so many men and women fought and even died for, we organize. Those of us that are tired of corporations using their wealth to impact the way OUR country serves it citizens... WE ORGANIZE!!
HOW?!? We offer ourselves, our gifts, talents and resources, to fight the good fight. We come together with our common purpose of social and economic justice to oppose those that would seek to otherwise hoard wealth and perpetuate poverty. WE... take ACTION!
We talk to our friends and neighbors about why their vote of NO is so important to us, as individuals and as a nation of democracy. We call people and offer them information that is being hidden from them about the consequences of this amendment. We go door to door and have human conversations with people so that they can make educated decisions when they get to the poll. We offer rides to rallies, marches and deomnstration so that our supporters are seen and heard. We bring hotdish and other nuriousment to our frontline field volunteers and participants. We give of our time, supplies and money, so that the cause we believe in can be shared far and wide through traditional and social media.
