NOC's Education Mission:

"...to close the achievement gap by building a powerful community of parents, teachers, students and neighbors who work together to achieve our vision of excellent public schools for every child in every neighborhood.

NOC Parent Survey

In 2011, NOC leaders and volunteers knocked on thousands of doors and dialed thousands of phones in low and moderate-income neighborhoods in Minneapolis and St. Paul. After speaking to the parents of over 700 school children, NOC worked with the Annenberg Institute for School Reform to present the report "Community Voices for Equity and Excellence." These findings will shape our education organizing work in 2012. Read the report to find out what we learned about class size, teacher quality, bullying, and more!

No Child Left Behind?

NOC is proud to be part of the Communities for Excellent Public Schools Coalition, which is working to change the school turnaround process outlined in No Child Left Behind. We're advocating for real community engagement instead of top-down solutions, because parents, teachers, and community leaders should be at the table.

Stop School Closures!

As part of the North High Community Coalition, we worked hard to save North High School, and we'll continue to work to stabilize schools in low-income neighborhoods so that our communities can thrive.

Community Power.

We're working to develop a base of parents who can advocate together for their kids, and for the whole school. Want to get involved? You can make a real difference in our public schools. Contact NOC Education Organizer Kerry Felder today!
