We are joining our brother and board member Daniel Yang at Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) in support of Indigenous People's Day in the City of Minneapolis.
After decades of community organizing and activism from countless individuals, organizations and groups; the Minneapolis City Council is approaching a vote on April 25th on whether or not to change October's Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day in the City of Minneapolis. Mayor Betsy Hodges has publicly supported the change to Indigenous People's Day.
Join us on Friday, April 25th for a community reception from 8:30am - 9:30am at Minneapolis City Hall (350 S. 5th St., Minneapolis) on the Third Floor in Room 319. The Ringing Shield Drum group, indigenous leaders and allies will join us, including the first elected Native American woman to serve in the Minnesota State Legislature, State Rep. Susan Allen; Native American Community Development Institute, President/CEO Jay Bad Heart Bull; International Indian Treaty Council, Co-Founder Bill Means, US Congressman Keith Ellison and many more! Following the community reception we'll head across the hall at 9:30am to the Minneapolis City Council Chambers to witness this historic vote! (There will be TVs in the hall and in overflow rooms)
Please invite your family, friends and colleagues to join us for this special moment. We're hoping to fill City Hall with indigenous people and allies to say "Hello to Indigenous People's Day and Goodbye to Columbus Day!" Get there early to find parking and grab a seat to witness history!
