The City of Minneapolis has announced that there will be a Public Meeting to make decisions about the South West Light Rail Transit Line (SWLRT) Tomorrow, July 8th, at 7p.m., Anwatin Middle School auditorium, 256 Upton Ave. S.
The SWLRT represents billions of dollars in public investment, and will have an enormous impact on North Minneapolis and communities of color. We have to part of shaping these decisions. Join us tomorrow at 7p.m. and be heard!
Please Email NOC Transit Organizer Michael McDowell at Michael@mnnoc.org for more info or to rsvp.
In the words of NOC member and community leader Amity Foster " "There is a SWLRT hearing tomorrow being held by the city of Minneapolis. I am going. And this is why: I went to a hearing about a month ago, and a woman from Eden Prairie stood up and said "what does the SLWRT have to do with jobs and job creation?". I heard another woman wax poetic about the trees her dad planted in the neighborhood & how it would be tragic to cut them down. I rolled my eyes and giggled. What needs to be heard instead is how light rail can build equity. But only if it connects with North Mpls via bus, if fares are lowered, and if bus service is improved overall. And that will only be heard if we show up. I will be there--and you should too."
Come stand with Amity and with NOC at the public hearing tomorrow. 7p.m. Anwatin School, 256 Upton Ave. S. MPLS
See you there!
